AmeriCares is a nonprofit disaster relief and humanitarian aid organization that provides immediate response to emergency medical needs, and supports long-term healthcare programs for people around the world, irrespective of race, creed or political persuasion.
AmeriCares works with major pharmaceutical companies and other medical suppliers to receive product donations and solicits financial support from individuals and corporations to deliver the aid via airlift or ocean cargo. AmeriCares partners with local charitable organizations in countries around the world who distribute the medicines and medical supplies to the health and welfare professionals in the indigent locations. Currently, AmeriCares is working in partnership with local organizations in more than 85 countries worldwide. Here in the U.S., AmeriCares partners with more than 100 health care clinics serving the uninsured and under-insured in over 30 states.
AmeriCares Free Clinics, a program of AmeriCares, has been providing quality, primary health care to the uninsured since 1994. The model is a cost-effective way to address the health care crisis in Fairfield County, Connecticut. Three clinics in Bridgeport, Danbury and Norwalk provide medical services to thousands of people every year, utilizing a network of dedicated volunteer doctors, nurses, interpreters and administrative personnel. AmeriCares also works closely with local hospitals, labs and specialists who donate their services.
