Please read the below information prior to your application to make sure it is a good fit.We require a 6-month commitment and at least 2 hours a week for volunteers and at least 6-10 hours a week for internships and 3-months minimum.

If you have any questions about volunteering in the drop-in/helpline, please email Volunteer Manager, Annaat [email protected].

The Cambridge Women's Center serves primarily vulnerable, housing-insecure, socially isolated, and low-income women in the Cambridge and Greater Boston area. Volunteers are depended on to staff the Center at all times. As a drop-in & helpline volunteer, you will:

  • Provide general staffing of the 4-story home
  • Provide emotional support in-person & on the phone
  • Have conversations & provide social support to members
  • Assist members with resource referrals and small projects
  • Perform regular walk-throughs of the house
  • Participate in cleaning, recording data, organizing, and other needed tasks
  • Be a present advocate for our members to turn to
  • Help with special projects as interest/time allows

Some days are quiet, and others are hectic and emotionally charged. Just your presence alone allows us to stay open. There will be downtime & busy days, and we expect volunteers to be able to handle both, as well as check in with their supervisors for support. Volunteers should expect to encounter a wide range of topics.

As a volunteer you will receive ongoing support and education from regularly scheduled trainings and volunteer meetings. In addition, you will receive regular check-ins from either our Volunteer Manager, Anna Plotkin-Swing, or our Director, Jessye Kass.

If you have any questions about volunteering in the drop-in/helpline, please email Anna, Volunteer Manager, at [email protected].
