Basic Function / Position Objective:

The Social Media and Marketing Intern is responsible for developing and executing plans to reach the organization’s strategic goal to brand Friends of the Children as one of the most recognizable and respected nonprofit organizations in the SF Bay Area.

This position reports to the Development & Communication Manager and is accountable for both quantity and quality of public-facing communications, including social media, website, print publications, and earned media. The position will work closely with the Development & Communications Manager in executing strategies to ensure increased awareness translates into increased donation support.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

· Manage content development for website and social media channels. Write original content. Identify and follow up with content providers (staff, volunteers, community leaders) to ensure diverse voices are represented. Ensure website and social media content are current, engaging, and accurate.

· Provide coaching and accountability to ensure content supports organizational messaging strategies.

· Grow social media following.

· Develop multi-channel strategies to support mailings through digital content.

· Identify opportunities to nominate Friends of the Children - SF Bay Area and its key supporters for awards and recognition. Prepare nomination/application materials.

· Identify opportunities for press coverage, draft press releases, send to media outlets, and make follow up calls to encourage coverage of newsworthy events.

Experience, Skills and Knowledge:

· Experience with communications directed at diverse constituents and market segments.

· Strong computer skills are essential: Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Creative Suite.

· Wordpress, Craft CMS, or other web design skills preferred.

· Outstanding written and verbal communication skills.

· Excellent project management skills - strong attention to detail and ownership for project timelines. Ability to effectively manage several projects concurrently, meet deadlines and communicate status effectively.

· Self starter with high level of initiative and willingness to learn.
