Found in Translation offers a free medical interpreter training to low-income bilingual women who are homeless or have been homeless in the past. Each year the women represent a wide array of different cultures and languages. Our program participants must be fully bilingual in English and a target language.

Found in Translationis seeking a few mentorsto work closely with program participants while they complete their medical interpreter training program. Mentors will meet with participants on a weekly basis, helping them to develop professional skills, learn to expand their network, and build their confidence in approaching real-life case scenarios pertaining to the work environment. Mentors should be energetic, culturally sensitive, responsible, compassionate, professional, and driven to assist and encourage our aspiring interpreters on their path to economic security.

Mentors have a time commitment of 2 hours of in person and 2-4 hours of remote support per week. The in-person commitment will be on Thursdays from 7:30-9:00 pm, every week, from September 3, 2019 - December 7, 2019. Classes take place at Boston Medical Center Yawkey Ambulatory Care Center. The remaining hours of remote support per week is flexible and consists mainly of follow up emails and phone calls with participants.

The essential component of this position is a strong commitment to being a constant, reliable, and stable presence throughout the entire medical interpreter training, both in-person and occasionally by phone or email. The ideal candidate will be responsible, creative, punctual, communicative, flexible, warm, culturally aware, and familiar with being in a mentorship position. Mentors should be energetic, committed people who are invested not only in providing a honest, nurturing learning environment for the participants, but also in the mission of the organization.
