What

Freedom for Immigrants (FFI) is devoted to abolishing immigration detention, while ending the isolation of people currently suffering in this profit-driven system.

The Hosting Team

In order for people to be released from detention, they need to provide an address where they will be living. Especially for asylum seekers who have just arrived in the US and do not yet have community support, housing presents a barrier to leaving detention. The hosting team is comprised of volunteers who offer housing to people so they can leave detention and start a new life.

The Vetting Team

The Vetting Team are responsible for managing the application process for people who are offering to be hosts. The Vetting Team process applications, provide initial phone interviews, engage in training for potential hosts, evaluate references, and make decisions about host placement viability.

What Do Vetting Volunteers Do?

Vetting Volunteers are responsible for the assessment, training and induction of new hosts. They use the FFI custom made VIANEY Database to record information about applicant progress and work with a team of co-volunteers to process applications for new placements.

Responsibilities include:

Participate in volunteer recruitment
Provide inductions to volunteers
Lead monthly team meetings
Establish communication channels for vetter workloads
Manage database of vetting volunteers
Check on volunteer well being
Motivate the team
Facilitate volunteer feedback so we can improve our work and develop skills
