What
The next COP25 (United Nations Climate Conference) will be held in Madrid from December 2nd-13th, 2019. COP25 was originally set to be in Chile, but was relocated on short notice to Madrid due to mass civil unrest and protests against wealth inequality and government corruption in Chile. COP25's relocation to Madrid presents an opportunity to hold another major global climate strike to signal to politicians everywhere the people demand accountability and action on climate change. It is also an important opportunity to show international solidarity between Spain, Chile, and other countries by coming together as one united front in a critical moment in history to address this climate crisis, as well as related economic injustice, inequality, and systemic flaws contributing to our problems.
In response, Extinction Rebellion, Greta Thunberg, and Fridays for Future, and hundreds of other climate activists, groups, and caring people will travel to Madrid to organize, strike, demonstrate, and call for the change our planet needs. There will be actions and opportunities to get involved all week, including a Social Summit for Climate, hosted by the people. On December 6th, Fridays for Future, Extinction Rebellion, and other groups will hold a global climate strike in Madrid with a march (Marcha Por El Clima) from Madrid Atocha Station to Nuevos Ministerios at 18:00.
We also encourage anyone traveling to Madrid to be creative and carbon efficient with their travel (just like Greta). Take trains and low-carbon boats wherever possible, or please carpool, ride-share, or use other forms of public transportation. Let's set the right example for the future we want to create.
