About

Hunger Intervention Program (HIP) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation that seeks to end hunger in Seattle with innovative programs that bring together volunteers and community partners. HIP provides nutritious meals, basic cooking skills, and nutrition education to underserved individuals in Seattle, with a focus on the north Seattle area.

OUR PROGRAMS:

Healthy HIP Packs
One in four Washington children lives in households
where families experience hunger. The Healthy
HIP Packs Program, a weekend food program
with nutritious and kid-friendly foods, provides an
important food resource for the children in these
families when school meals are not available.

Senior Meals
HIP’s Senior Community Meal provides a weekly lowcost,
nutritious and delicious meal for seniors 60 and
better. It is also an opportunity to build community
and to learn new things.

This program is offered in partnership with Senior
Services and the Lake City Community Center. The
lunch is a part of Senior Mondays, which offers a
variety of programming every Monday morning
through the lunch.

Summer Meals
Each summer, many kids and teens in our
communities, who rely on school breakfast and
lunch during the school year, are faced with three
months without meal support. HIP’s Summer Meals
for Kids provides freshly made, nutritious lunches
from the HIP kitchen at kid-friendly locations around
the north Seattle community. HIP partners with other
community organizations to offer activities at meal
sites to encourage participation all summer long.

Cooking Demonstrations
Each week, HIP demonstrates how to prepare easy
and nutritious dishes with the foods available that
week at the food bank. Recipes highlight items that
are unfamiliar to clients or use common ingredients
in new ways, encouraging healthy food choices and
reducing food waste. Visit our Blog to try out our
latest recipes!

Afterschool Meals
HIP’s afterschool meal program partners with
existing afterschool programming to offer a healthy
snack to kids to keep them engaged.
