Do you enjoy working with children ages 5-12 and want to fu rther you skills in group work? This opportunity provides a chance to work under a Licensed Clinical Social Worker who will provide supervision. It is a chance to give back to the some of the most vulnerable children and t heir families in Atlanta. Project GRANDD families are grandparents raising their grandchildren with special needs. The biological parents are unable to care for the children due to a variety of reasons including death\, il lness\, substance addiction\, incarceration\, etc.
Job descr iption
The Children’s Support Group Facilitator is respon
sible for facilitating a monthly support group for elementary-aged childre
n who are being raised by their grandparents. The Children’s Group Facil
itator is responsible for the development and maintenance of the group and
ensures that the group meets and maintains the ISDD's standards of qualit
y. Time commitment is 2 hours per month beginning in January 2016.
Group will be held at the Metropolitan Library Branch in SW Atlanta. Supervision is provided by the Program Director who is a Licensed Cl
inical Social Worker.
The Children's Group Facilitator will:
a) provide a safe\, nurturing and supportive environment for children <

b) provide opportunities for children to enhance their self-esteem
and practice social skills
c) model effective non-violent problem
solving and conflict resolution techniques
d) support children an
d their grandparents to establish trust and positive interactions with eac
h other
e) support children as they work through difficult emotions such as grief\, anger and loss
Desired Skills and Exp erience
This position requires the following skills: Group Facilitation\, Cross-cultural Communication\, People Skills\, Relationship Building\, Child Welfare\, Child Care. Experience working with children r equired. Master’s degree in counseling or social work preferred.
