Volunteer with Mittens for Detroit to lend a hand to as they kick off their 10th Collection Season. You'll be celebrating 10 years of warmth by helping to get thousands of new mittens and gloves onto thousands of hands. Mittens for Detroit collects thousands of pairs of new mittens and gloves every year, then distributes them to children and adults throughout the Detroit metro area, including Hamtramck, Highland Park, and Dearborn. In order to process and gift all the mittens, Mittens for Detroit needs lots volunteers to lend a hand.
NOTE: Mittens for Detroit is looking for groups of volunteers: groups of friends, employee volunteering groups, and other teams who can help contribute. Ideally your group should have between 5 - 20 people from your office, community group, sorority, company, school, or other group. Each volunteer must be age 18+ or older.
Sorting events happen between November 11th through March 31st this year. Dates are set up at the convenience of the volunteer group, who will to come to the Mittens for Detroit office to sort, count, and pack gloves and mittens into boxes. The work is mostly inside, except for when boxes need to be transported to the curb for pickup. There is some lifting possible, and there are also accommodations for those who have limited mobility.
