The National Sexual Assault Online Hotline, operated by RAINN, provides live, secure, anonymous crisis support to the growing number of people who prefer communicating online through a simple instant message format, giving those affected by sexual assault a safe place to receive support.
As a trained volunteer you:
- Undergo a thorough screening process. See Training Process and Application below for more information.
- Interact with experts in the field and an array of staff members.
- Provide much-needed support to victims of sexual assault and their loved ones.
- Volunteer program and expectations
To ensure this is the right volunteer program for you, the following are the expectations and responsibilities of an online hotline volunteer:
- Must pass a criminal background check provided by RAINN at no-cost to you.
- Required to volunteer a minimum of 10 hours of direct service on the Online Hotline each month.
- Volunteers can expect to dedicate an additional 2 hours a month to volunteering for things such as monthly volunteer meetings and correspondence.
- Commit to at least 18 months of volunteer service.
- Adhere to and practice RAINN policies.
All work can be done from the comfort of your own home.
This is a flexible activity that can be completed whenever you have enough free time.
This is a remote action that can be done anywhere as long as you have the necessary time, skills, instructions and resources.
