Real Change exists to provide opportunity and a voice to low-income and homeless people while taking action for economic, social, and racial justice.
The Real Change Homeless Empowerment Project was founded in 1994 as a street newspaper offering immediate employment options for the poor and homeless and to challenge the structures that create poverty. Our mission is to provide opportunity and a voice for low-income and homeless people while taking action for economic justice. Over the last twenty years, Real Change has grown to become the leading street newspaper in North America. In 2013, our weekly newspaper sold over 718,000 copies and employed a monthly average of 325 people.
