What

SCORE Philadelphia is one of over 300 all-volunteer chapters of SCORE, a 50+ year old non-profit dedicated to helping people start and manage small businesses through mentoring and education, all free to the clients. We offer opportunities for retired and working people to use their skills and knowledge in this endeavor. Our chapter is one of the most diverse in the country, with many men and women of all racial and ethnic backgrounds. We look for people with business experience, in small businesses or large corporations, in general management or particular functions, who would like to share that experience with eager entrepreneurs and struggling business owners and managers. Experience in retail business, restaurants and other service businesses are especially in demand. Our volunteers find great personal satisfaction in using their hard-earned knowledge to help people who need and value that knowledge. Our mentors work closely withsome clients on a long-term basis, watching their clients successfully implement their ideas. Some clients have a particular problem in finance, marketing or operations and seek expertise in those areas. Some clients are just exploring the idea of working for themselves and need education and wise counseling to clarify their own values, resources and willingness to put in the required effort. In addition to mentors and counselors, the chapter needs volunteers to help in running its own operations, to serve on committees in marketing, communications, IT, etc. Some of these volunteers do no mentoring but only help the chapter in pursuing its mission.
