Installation FAQ
To install Brightest's Sustainable Shipping Saver app for Shopify, visit the app page in the Shopify app store, then click the purple "Add app" button.
For the app to start calculating your Shopify store's sustainability analytics, you'll need to authenticate with your Shopify store using a link like: https://www.sustainable-store.com/auth/inline?shop=your-shopify-store. Make sure you have Shopify store administrator permissions for the shop link you enter.
Your Shopify store address will look something like brightest-store.myshopify.com
Important Terms
CO2 - Carbon dioxide. Climate change is primarily a problem of too much carbon dioxide (CO2) in the atmosphere. This carbon overload is caused mainly when we burn fossil fuels like coal, oil and gas or cut down and burn forests. Unfortunately, our products, supply chains, and businesses often generate CO2 by manufacturing, transporting, and shipping raw materials and finished products. While there are many heat-trapping gases (like methane), the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) finds CO2 contributes most to climate change due to its high “radiative forcing” (RF) effect and longevity. After CO2 is emitted into the atmosphere, an estimated 40% remains in the atmosphere for up to 100 years. 20% can last up to 1,000 years. This unfortunately means that the emissions we release today shipping products to customers will influence the climate our children and grandchildren will inherit.
GHG - A short abbreviation for "greenhouse gas." A greenhouse gas is a gas that absorbs and emits radiant energy within the thermal infrared range. CO2 and CH4 (methane) are two of the most important GHG's contributing to our current climate crisis.
Pre-Sale Shipping - Supply chain sustainability and environmental footprint estimates generated by the app from your Shopify data. These estimates are based on the assumed or calculated environmental footprint of your manufacturing process, including the distance between where your product was manufactured or assembled and your store or fulfillment center address. Note: estimates are based on available data within your Shopify store, which may be incomplete, partial, or best-effort estimates. For more approximate, detailed lifecycle analysis (LCA) estimates of your e-commerce operations, please contact us directly to discuss a custom assessment.
Post-Sale Shipping - The environmental footprint lifecycle analysis (LCA) of your post-sale supply chain, shipping products from your store or fulfillment center to your customer. All other things equal, Post-Sale Shipping estimates will typically be more accurrate and approximate than Pre-Sale Shipping calculations, since Post-Sale Shipping calculations are based on your Shopify order data and shipping fulfillment info from providers like UPS, USPS, Fedex, and DHL.
